NEW DELHI: It's official now. Former minister of state for external affairs Shashi Tharoor has divorced his Canadian wife, Christa Giles.

The parliament record of the Thiruvananthapuram MP, which till last week had Christa Tharoor's name against a column to indicate marital status, mentions his status as divorcee now.

The development comes amidst reports that Tharoor is planning to marry his long-time companion Sunanda Pushkar.

The Malayalam media is full of details about the impending marriage of the former UN diplomat to the Dubai-based businesswoman on Aug 17, which is the Malayalam New Year Day.

Newshounds from the Kerala media say the Tharoor-Pushkar marriage will be solemnised in an auditorium in the premises of the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram, built by the royal family of Travancore.
