Tearful adieu to M G Radhakrishnan

The state bade a tearful adieu to Carnatic singer and music composer, M G Radhakrishnan who died here on Friday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state bade a tearful adieu to Carnatic singer and music composer, M G Radhakrishnan who died here on Friday.

His mortal remains were cremated at Thycaud Santhi Kavadam around 3.30 p.m. on Saturday. The cremation was held with full state honours.

Earlier in the morning, scores of students, film technicians, music lovers and film personalities paid tribute to Radhakrishnan, when his body was kept at Swathi Thirunal Music College.

The premises of the college, which was his alma mater, was literally thronged with people before his body was taken to All India Radio at Vazhuthacaud at 1 p.m., where he worked as a musician in his early years.

Later the body was brought to `Medayil’ house, for the final rites by 2 p.m.

His wife Padmaja, daughter Karthika, son Rajakrishnan, sister Omanakutty, other relatives and friends paid their last respects.

The body was then taken to `Santhi Kavadam` by 3 p.m. Rajakrishnan performed the last rites before the body was taken for cremation.

Education Minister M A Baby, Law Minister M Vijayakumar, K R Mohanan, Chairman, Kerala State Chalchithra Academy, singer K S Chithra, director Shaji Kailas, singer Vijay Yesudas, poet Sugathakumari, Soorya Krishnamoorthy and director Fazil also paid floral tributes to the departed musician.
