THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The community site ‘koottam.com”, a venture of a group of Malayalees, has succeeded in gaining around 2 lakh followers within two years.

Koottam, which is promoting Malayalam among non-resident Keralites scattered across the world, offers a platform for all Malayalees to converse in Malayalam, to discuss issues and post their blogs. As part of a get-together of community members, Koottam is organising a meet at Vyloppilli Samskriti Bhavan here on July 11.

The site has three administration sections working 24x7 from US, Kerala and the Gulf to resolve complaints being registered in the site. The site has 20, 412 blog posts and 22, 477 debates, according to last week’s statistics, says Jayan, convener of the Koottam Kerala  meet.

‘’The site uses Varamozhi software to enable writing in Malayalam. The typing of Malayalam is easy with the software,” Jayan said. Koottam also undertakes humanitarian activities to help members as well as non-members.  The Kerala meet will be the first of its kind being organised by a community network in Kerala, the organisers claim. The site’s members include poet Kureeppuzha Sreekumar and  T N Seema MP.

Koottam has been a launching pad for writers and poets such as Ramya Antony, whose work Shalabhayanam got published in print a few months ago. "I am grateful to Koottam for making me a writer and for helping me to be alive when I was diagnosed with cancer,” Ramya said.

The site was started by Jyothikumar and Jayamohan in 2008. Now it is a growing with above 60 lakh pages being added to it every month. Some of the blogs posted in the site have received above 150 reviews.

Poet Sugathakumari will inaugurate the ‘Koottam Kerala Meet’ at 10.30 a.m. on  Sunday.

The meet will also be attended by Kureeppuzha Sreekumar and several other persons from the literary field. They are also planning another meet this December in Thrissur.
