THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A section of the alumni of the School of International Relations and Politics (SIRP), Mahatma Gandhi University, has come out against media reports about the alleged Maoist links of the students and faculty of the SIRP.

“It has already been clarified that the report was baseless and intended to malign the reputation of the School. The report not only reflects the ill-intentions behind the act, but also it reveals the senselessness with which the media vitiate the academic and professional debates within the discipline of international relations and area studies,” said a statement issued by the alumni.

“We also call for the intervention of the Press Council of India to check such attempts to bring institutions of higher learning under cloud of suspicion,” it said. KB Usha, TG Suresh and Happymon Jacob (Jawaharlal Nehru University), Sreeja Balarajan (Virginia Commonwealth University, US), Mathew Joseph C, MS  Sreerekha, MH Ilias (Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi),  and Sreekala Sivasankaran (Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts) are among the signatories.
