Musical fest at Karikkakom

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Forest Minister K B Ganeshkumar inaugurated the Karikkakathamma Navarathri Sangeetholsavam and cultural meet at the Sree Chamundi temple, Karikkakom, on Tuesday. M A Wahid MLA presided over the function.

Following the inauguration, Bhargavi Ganesh from Chennai presented a musical concert. On Wednesday, Udupi S Sreenath gave a concert.

 The programme will showcase a series of musical performances by well-known artists on coming days. Padmarajamani Palakkad will present a veena concert and Dr Omanakutti will present a musical concert on Thursday.

On Friday, there will be a performance by Global World Record-winning flautist Jayaprabha Ramamurthy. On Saturday, students of Karikkakom Sree Chamundi Kalapeedam will perform a ‘Nadarchana’.

 Musical concerts by Manimala D Satheedevi and Perumbavoor G Raveendranath will be Sunday’s programmes. On Monday, October 3, Pranavam Madhu will present a musical concert.

On October 4,  Vaikkom Jayachandran from Chennai will perform. ‘Margi’ will present a Kathakali performance on ‘Poothana Moksham’ and students of Karikkakom Sree Chamundi Kalapeedam will perform on October 5.

 Noted personalities who have made remarkable achievements in the art-cultural fields will be

honoured at a function to be inaugurated by Speaker G Karthikeyan on October 5, the Mahanavami Day.

Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri, Soorya Krishnamoorthy, Dr Marthandan Pillai, actor Thilakan, C V Ananda Bose IAS, actress Sreelatha Namboothiri, magician Gopinath Muthucaud and playback singer Bhavana Radhakrishnan will be honoured on the occasion.

 The Temple Trust will gift ` 10,000 to Roopesh, who bagged first rank in the B Tech examinations. Udayakumar, who carried out  rescue operations

during the Karikkakom school van tragedy, will be awarded a memento for bravery.

Five senior members of the Trust will be draped with a ‘ponnada’ during the function. Students of Sree Chamundi Kalakshethram who have won the

sub-district level festival will be given consolation prizes.

 The ‘poojavaippu’ ceremony will commence at 5 pm on October 4 at the temple.

On October 6, the ‘Vidyarambham’ day, under the  leadership of Brahmasree Puliyannoor Illathu Narayanan Anujan  Namboothiripad and Brahmashree T V Vishnu Namboothiri,  ‘Vidyarambham’ will be initiated by Kavalam Narayana Panicker and  Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri.

A special counter has been arranged to avoid the rush to book tickets for ‘Vidyarambham’ and

availing of ‘Saraswathahritham’.

 The Temple Trust has also announced that apart from social activities, it would organise a mass marriage, adoption of poor children to provide them education and providing dwellings for impoverished people.
