CM to lay stone for BSF SHQ tomorrow

Express News Service

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will lay the foundation stone for the Sector Headquarters (SHQ) of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.

The SHQ is coming up on 15 acres of land at the Sewage Farm, Muttathara. Currently, the BSF SHQ is operating out of temporary offices at Sasthamangalam. The Kerala unit of the para-military force was formed three years ago, and the SHQ controls BSF battalions in Thrissur, Kozhikode, Coimbatore and Karahalli in Bangalore.

The primary aim of the BSF unit in Kerala is to assist retired personnel and to provide aid to the state police in times of contingencies. Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will lay the foundation stone for an administrative block.

Foundation stones will also be unveiled for mess facilities and a residential complex on the occasion. Mayor K Chandrika, IG (Frontier HQ, BSF) S A Khader, former DG BSF and Kerala DGP Raman Srivastava and DIG BSF Thiruvananthapuram George Manjuran will be present.

The State Government had earlier announced that land would be allocated to the uniformed forces at Muttathara. The Southern Air Command of the IAF also has been allocated land in this area, where they plan to establish accommodation facilities.
