THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Prof Heinrich P Kelz, visiting fellow, to the Kerala University, has delivered a special lectures series at the Department of Linguistics of the University, at the Kariavattom campus on Wednesday. He spoke on the topics ‘Intercultural Awareness and the Language Factor’ and ‘The Fields of General and Applied Linguistics’.

  Kelz from Bonn University in Germany, said, though language learning is challenging in every society, it opens a new window for better understanding of the world. He also pointed out that, other than this purpose, a practical use of language must be aimed at. “In business and marketing this can be done effectively. Many schools and publishers have tried to answer this by contributing new words and text books in business language,” he remarked.

  The sessions were chaired by Rose Mary, head of the Department of Linguistics.
