Probe ordered against Selvaraj

Express News Service

The Enquiry Commissioner and Special Judge (Vigilance) on Monday ordered a probe against Neyyatinkara MLA R Selvaraj with regard to the allegations of misappropriation of MLA Local Area Development (LAD) fund.

Vigilance Judge S Mohandas ordered the probe on a petition filed by Dayananda Das, a CPM member in April this year.

In the petition filed through advocate P Nagaraj, Das alleged that Selvaraj misappropriated a fund of Rs 5 lakh for the maintenance of the stretch of road from Panayammoola to Chembara in the Eythukondakani ward in Parassala as part of flood relief works when he was the MLA of Parassala representing CPM in 2010.

However, the petitioner alleged that the MLA’s fund was never used for the work. Instead, the maintenance of the road was carried out during the same time as the MLA proposed to do it under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).  The Judge also ordered probe against the present ward member A Vijayan and the assistant engineer and an overseer of the panchayat.
