He was speaking after inaugurating a function organised by the Kamukara Foundation for presenting the 2013 edition of the Kamukara Award to Joy.

‘’Joy was a path-breaker who made new trends to musical world. His music was easily recognisable as his own,’’ Tharoor said.

Joy’s daughter Amitha Joy accepted the award from Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph on her father’s behalf. Writer Prabha Varma delivered the memorial lecture on Kamukara Purushothaman.

Foundation general secretary P V Sivan, president V Rajeevan, chairman V S Suresh Babu and All India Radio former director K A Muralidharan were present at the function. A panel consisting of Perumbavoor Raveendranath, Dr Janaki Devi and Ravi Menon had selected Joy for the annual award.
