Renowned dance exponent Kottayam Bhavani Chellappan has been selected for the Guru Gopinath Natya Puraskar.

Bhavani Chellappan, a student of Guru Gopinath, had earlier received the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award, awards from Tanjavur South Zone Cultural Centre and many more from the state and other organisations.

Speaker G Karthikeyan will present the Natya Puraskar, instituted by Guru Gopinath Nadana Gramam, at a function to be held at Guru Gopinath Nadana Gramam Chilamboli Auditorium at 5 pm on Tuesday.  The award comprises a purse of Rs 25,000, a statuette and a scroll of honour. The award winner was chosen by a special jury panel here.

Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph will honour the winner. K Muraleedharan MLA, will preside over the function. Cultural Affairs secretary Rani George and Nadana Gramam executive members Kavalloor Madhu, R Rajan Gurukkal, V Mohanan Thampi, D Sasi Mohan and Sundareswari Amma will speak.

The award presentation will be followed by various cultural programmes by the inmates of the Nadana Gramam. The highlight of the session will be a bharatanatyam performance by actress Lakshmi Gopalaswamy.
