Animation Masters Summit Concludes

The Indian Animation Masters Summit concluded here on Saturday with people thronging the venue in large numbers to listen to the masters of the Indian animation industry.

The day kicked off with a talk by Chetan Sharma, filmmaker, animator and writer who spoke on how to turn obstacles in the animation industry into opportunities.

Devdutt Patnaik, a best-selling author and orator, spoke on the ‘Science of Story-telling’ and highlighted the importance of understanding our epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharata.

“Readers should get an aftertaste after reading a story. It should touch one’s innerself,” said Devadutt in his session on story writing.

“Usually everyone says that stories are universal but they are not as they don’t exist without culture,” he said.

“Every story is rooted in culture. The structure of the story exists all around us, we should see them that’s all. Story telling is part of our temple rituals. The target audience have changed considerably over the years. So before telling a story certain things need to be kept in mind,” he said.

Vaibhav Kumaresh, founder of the Vaibhav Studios and a visiting faculty in many institutions, shared his experience with the animation industry including setting up an animation studio which produces short format animation films.

Manisha Mohan, the head of Design and Animation in Tata Interactive Systems (TIS), shared her vision and experiences on how animation can be taken beyond entertainment. Her experiences in creating interactive tools for children with learning disabilities were also shared and discussed upon.

Gayatri Rao, founder-director of Animagic Studios, spoke on her experiences as an internee at the Walt Disney Studio and how from there she went on to create India’s first fully 2D animated music video.

Toonz Animation India’s CEO P Jayakumar, Chief Creative Officer Hari Varma and Head of Operation P K Vijayakumar spoke on the occasion. Toonz Chief Operating Officer Hari Iyer proposed the vote of thanks.

The two-day long Indian Animation Masters Summit was organised by Toonz Animation here as part of its year-long 15th anniversary celebrations.
