THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will present the first K P Udayabhanu Award to playback singer P Jayachandran at a function to be organised by the K P Udayabhanu Foundation at VJT Hall on January 12 to commemorate the first death anniversary of renowned singer and music director Udayabhanu.

An award committee comprising Perumbavoor G Raveendranath, T P Sasthamangalam and Ravi Menon announced the recipient of the award during a press conference held at the Press Club here on Saturday.

Foundation chairman Sivan and secretary V K Mohan said that the ‘Old is Gold’, the music troupe founded by Udayabhanu, would be resurrected.A concert by singers marking the re-launch of the ‘Old is Gold’ would take place on the same day which would be inaugurated by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala. A CD featuring songs by Udayabhanu would be released by K Muraleedharan MLA, during the occasion.  ENS
