THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Tata Xenon, Mahindra Scorpio Getaway and Mahindra Bolero Camper Gold - all these homegrown vehicles are efficient and well-built for both on-road and off-road expeditions

A ‘pick-up truck' is referred to as a vehicle which has a rear cargo space that can be utilised for transporting all kinds of goods. The vehicle has also become a favourite among adventure lovers.

For loading and unloading purposes, out of the typical Piaggio Ape, Tata Ace line, people prefer a more comfortable and pompous kind of ride nowadays and this is where the pick-up truck comes in. Presently, Tata and Mahindra pick-up trucks are available.

The Tata Xenon, Mahindra Scorpio Getaway and Mahindra Bolero Camper Gold - all these homegrown vehicles are efficient and well-built for both on-road and off-road expeditions. For the same reason, both the SUVs are fast-moving wonders in the market. Both of these SUVs are altered and delivered to the customer the way they prefer. “Customers living in high range areas are the ones who prefer such vehicles more as they are dynamic in performance, both on-road and off-road,” says Rahul, customer executive of Mahindra showroom, Kozhikode.

Mahindra Scorpio Getaway is a rugged-looking machine which comes as a modification of its previous, and still in demand model, Mahindra Scorpio. The diesel-fuelled Getaway runs on 2609cc, SZ CRDe, 4-stroke, turbo-charged, DI engine which produces 115 HP (81Kw) @3800 rpm and a torque of 28.3 kgm @ 1700-2200 rpm. The company offers a mileage of 15 km for this very powerful and muscular SUV. This vehicle will be delivered to the customer within one month of booking. The Getaway comes with an on-road budget of `7.25 lakh  (approx.) for private use and `6.62 lakh  (approx) for taxi purposes.

Another other macho-looking vehicle from the Bolero family is also doing the rounds in the city. The Mahindra Bolero Camper Gold, which comes as an altered version of the muscular all-terrain vehicle Mahindra Bolero. Its 4-cylinder, 4-stroke DI engine has a 2523 cc. The 46.3 kw@3200 rpm (62 HP) power-producing Mahindra Camper Gold has a maximum torque of 195 nm@1500-1800 rpm. Similar to Getaway, Camper Gold also offers 15km/l mileage.

The regular model of this SUV costs ` 9.17 lakh and the 4x4 model costs ` 10.24 lakh.The sporty-looking 5-shift Tata Xenon is the other vehicle in the puck-up family which is quite in demand here. It is built with a 2,956 cc, 2.2L DOHC VTT DICOR engine, which produces a maximum power of 72 HP@3000 rpm and a torque of 223 nm@1600-2200 rpm. The colour options available are black, white and red. The 4x4 vehicle comes in silver option too. The company offers a mileage of 15 km/l on the vehicle.

To improve the traction of the vehicle, Xenon is also rigged with a limited-slip differential (LSD) at its rear axle, for improved driving on loose surfaces such as sand, mud, etc.  The vehicle runs on diesel.

The on-road price of the regular model is ` 7.83 lakh (approximately) and that of the 4x4 model is ` 8.60 lakh  (approximately).
