Captain R Harshan, who died fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, was remembered on his seventh death anniversary.

 The Ananda Nilayam Orphanage and Widows’ Home, Kuriathi, organised a brief function to remember the young Army officer who laid down his life in service of the nation. B Mohanan Nair inaugurated the function. K Mahadevan, president of the Karma Socio-Cultural Organisation, Ananda Nilayam president B Sasidharan Nair and R Padmanabhan, secretary of Harshan Nagar, were present on the occasion.

 Captain Harshan, who hailed from the city, was attached to 2 Para, a special forces unit of the Indian Army. He died during an encounter at Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, on March 20, 2007. At the time, his family lived at Manacaud. The young officer was an alumnus of the Sainik School at KazhakKootTam. The nation later honoured him with the Ashoka Chakra for valour.
