THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the lovers of literature, especially the followers of Beypore Sultan, Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, here is good news as from now on you can watch his famous short story ‘Vishwavikhyathamaya Mookku’ (The World-renowned Nose) in the animated version. A group of youngsters from Kozhikode has come up with the visualised form of one of the best-sellers of this writer.

Biju Bavode, the director of the animated movie, says that the current relevance of this story is what encouraged them to come up with this venture.

“The mentality of the public to torture a person on a particular cause is being discussed in the story. It is still happening around us. So, while we were planning to do an animated movie on Basheer’s work, we did not find any difficulty to zero in on this story,” he says. According to Biju, another element which helped him to choose this story is its narrative style. “‘Vishwavikhyathamaya Mookku’ is narrated in a comic style as both children and adults can enjoy it. Moreover, he is my favourite fiction writer,” says Biju. A team under the leadership of Biju from the Kozhikode-based ‘Between Animations’ has worked for this 2D movie. According to the maker, they took around two years to materialise this project, which was made under a budget of `10 lakh. Millennium Videos has already started the distribution of the movie. “Though it is released in 2D animation, we are planning to re-release it in 3D version. But its work will be started only after our current project on poet Kunjunni Master’s literary works,” says Biju, who had earlier had made an animated movie on Basheer’s another work ‘Bhoomiyude Avakashikal’ (The Inheritors of the Earth).
