Missing nadan flavours? Head straight to Biverah, Kumarapuram where you can indulge in an array of ethnic delicacies. The Nattu Ruchi food festival going on there has almost all varieties of Kerala’s regional cuisine. On offer are all those homely tastes ranging from kappa biriyani and tattu dosa to chembu stew and ayala porichathu.
Kerala boasts of a range of local specialties and there are subtle differences in food habits across the state. If coconut, sharp spices and seafood make an important part of diet at one place, it changes to some yummy veg preparations and signature meat dishes as we move up the state. The highlight of ‘Nattu Ruchi’ is that the festival doles out flavours from almost all famed cuisines of Kerala.
At the snack counter you will found all the nadan savouries like mulaku baji, parippu vada, pazham pori, sukhiyan and neyyappam along with tea and coffee. From there you can move on to the main course featuring an array of breads and rices. You can choose from chendamurian kappa, Kerala paratha, chambavari puttu, ari puttu, appam, neychoru and kothu paratha.
All the dishes are prepared in the traditional way using desi spices. You will also find a number of unusual items on the menu like irachi kallil chuttathu and kada kurumulakittathu. Other specialties include chemmeen ularthu, karimeen pollichathu, ayala porichathu, neymeen moilee, mathi peera vattichathu, thaaravu mappas, naadan kozhi varutharachathu, attin curry, kadala curry and pachakkary kuruma.
The festival is on till August 9. Timing is 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm.
