Mother India’s Crochet Queens are all set to break the Guinness World Record for creating the largest crochet blanket in the world. The crochet blankets were displayed at Durbar Hall Ground in Kochi the other day by the members of the team. The attempt is to create a 5,000 sq metre blanket by crocheting blankets of one sq metre each. Through this project, Mother India Crochet Queens is expects to break the prevailing record of a blanket measuring 3,377 sq metre that was created by crocheting 67 blankets in South Africa’s Pretoria.

The group members are hosting an exhibition across many cities in India and worldwide. More than 1,800 women between the age 8 to 85 are involved in this endeavour.  is is a collective attempt by women across the world to spread warmth. All the blankets will need to be shipped to Chennai and once after doing so, it will be knitted together to make one large blanket. Natarajan started this project as an online campaign which gained large recognition and women across many parts of the world joined their hands to make her dream come true.

Santhakumari and Radha Natarajan are co-ordinating the MICQ group in Kerala.

Any woman who knows how to crochet can make a 40x40 inches blanket of any color in granny square patterns and can join the group. One blanket is enough for a kid while three blankets is enough for an adult.
