ATTINGAL: The mime competition on Thursday in the ongoing Revenue district school kalolsavam was rich in novel themes which included topics like the recent ‘student in the kennel’ issue and ‘Kiss of Love’ protests.
Around 15 mime teams took part in the mime competition. While some of the performances were amusing, others were thought-provoking.
A mime team comprising girl students presented a show on the issue of marital life of current generation. The story was narrated from the viewpoint of a housewife who is being subject to torture by an alcoholic husband. Later, the focus shifts to the life of their child who is a student. Another performance related to the incident in which a school student was put in dog’s kennel in a school.
The other mime performances related to protests and atrocities in the society. The ‘Kiss of Love’ protest was criticised in one of the mime performances. Other performances related to atrocities against women such as e Delhi gang rape incident and exploitation of women by trapping women in the pretext of love.
The media too came in critical review in some performances for their penchant to go after juicy stories. ‘’Some of the ideas of mime performances are brilliant as the students have taken the initiative for themselves, like the student in the kennel incident and KOL protest,’’ said Arun who was present at the Municipal Town Hall to watch the mime show.
Another mime presentation related to carrying the message against water wastage. The story was narrated through the life of a farmer who uses water for cultivation.
At the same time, the life of urban residents were also portrayed where water is wasted. ‘’All the teams performed well as they had come with good skits,’’ said one of the judge after the performance.
SECURES FIRST POSITION
Holy Angels Convent Higher Secondary School has secured first position in mime competition. According to teachers accompanying the group, this is the first time the school has been selected for the state-level competition. Their performance related to portrayals of current social issues and problems in society due to corruption.
‘’The performance was used to criticise the loopholes in the system which leads to corruptions,’’ said Syam Krishnan, of Thiruvallam here, who had trained the team.
‘’They have been practicing from August itself, following Plus I admissions. The team consisted of both Plus I and Plus II students,’’ he said. The team comprised Kavya Anil, Swetha S Mani, Anagha R Senan, Malavika Praveen, Lisha, Minnu G Babu and Nila Ravi.
