THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The University of Kerala has decided to entrust the re-valuation of answer scripts of LLB examinations to examiners outside the University in the wake of allegations that the valuation process was flawed.
“The revaluation of the answer scripts for LLB exams will be carried out by teachers of government and aided colleges which are not affiliated to the University of Kerala as well as the faculty of other universities within the state,’’ Controller of Examinations R Madhukumar told ‘Express’. ‘Express’ had published a series of reports highlighting the irregularities in the valuation process of LLB exams.
Students of the Government Law College here had formed a Joint Action Council in the wake of mass failure of candidates in the LLB third semester examination.
“The University’s decision is a vindication of our stand that there were major irregularities in the valuation of answersheets.
Even during the scrutiny, discrepancies of over 10 marks were detected in most of the papers,’’ said Karakulam Adarsh, convenor of the Joint Action Council.
The majority of the students who appeared for the third semester LLB examination from both the Government Law College and the Kerala Law Academy Law College failed in the Criminal Procedure Code paper which evoked suspicion over the manner in which the answer scripts were valued.
“The irony is that, till now, the revaluation was carried out by the same examiners who did the initial valuation.
With the University now deciding to end this practice, we are hopeful of a getting justice,’’ Adarsh said.
