THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A director board meeting of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) held here on Monday gave administrative sanction for ‘Transgrid-2.0’, a long-term initiative of the state-run utility to strengthen its transmission network. The KSEB intends to have the system in place by the time Kerala starts getting power from the mega transmission project linking Raigarh in Chattisgarh to Pugalur in Tamil Nadu and Madakkathara in Kerala. The project will be implemented at a total cost of Rs 9,400 crore. In the first phase, the cost is expected to touch Rs 4745.77 crore. In this phase, the KSEB plans to construct a 400/220 kV multi-circuit line linking the 400 KV substations at Madakkathara in Thrissur and Areekode in Kozhikode district. In addition to this, 400 KV sub-stations will be constructed at Mylatti in Kasargode, Edamon, Kottayam, Kollam and Kundara. As part of Transgrid-2.0, the KSEB also plans to have new 220 kV sub-stations in 26 locations, including Neeleswaram, Kunnamangalam, Thalassery and Kakkayam.

NEW ZONE FOR DISTRIBUTION WING
The KSEB director board meeting has given its nod for a new distribution zone at Kannur. This takes the total number of distribution zones of the KSEB to four. The other three zones are based in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode. The meeting also decided to start 29 new electrical sections.
