THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will soon roll out pink buses exclusively for women. Taking a cue from She Taxis and Pink Patrol, KSRTC will revamp its exiting ladies-only bus service to attract more women passengers.

Two city ordinary service will be rolled out on a pilot basis, said Chairman and Managing Director M G Rajamanikyam. Based on the success more buses will be launched in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam. The bus will have a woman conductor and offers safe ride. KSRTC is yet to decide on the route and date of launch. The buses are getting a makeover at the Central Works Depot at Kaimanam.

According to Rajamanikyam the colour was changed to pink so that passengers can better identify the service. He, however, said that concessions will not be applicable in Pink bus. Students’ concessions have eroded the passenger base of KSRTC to a large extend. Considering the difficulty of women passengers in getting a safe travel in the night, KSRTC is mulling the extension of such services in the night. In the past KSRTC has tried night-services, but they were withdrawn due to poor patronage. This time KSRTC is hopeful that the pink and white buses will find popularity among women.
