Several hurt as bus falls off bridge near Attingal in Kerala capital

Several passengers were injured after a private bus heading to Coimbatore fell off a bridge near Attingal here on Sunday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Several passengers were injured after a private bus heading to Coimbatore fell off a bridge near Attingal here on Sunday.

The incident took place at the Mamam bridge when the private bus tried to overtake a KSRTC bus and lost control plunging off the bridge.

The bus which was going from Thiruvananthapuram to Coimbatore had 35 passengers in it. But a major mishap was averted as the bus got stuck on the trees and did not plunge into the river.  

Rescue operations were being carried out by the Fire and Rescue Services personnel, the police and the local residents.

All passengers on the bus were reported to be safe and suffering from minor injuries only.

 “No one is seriously injured. But some of them have suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital,” said Attingal police.

The injured were rushed to the Government Hospital at Valiyakkunnu, Attingal.

The traffic movement along the national highway was affected owing to the accident.
