TIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The city police have arrested one more Maldivian in connection with the seizure of 17 kg hashish oil from here last month. Amhar Rashydh, 22, who was doing a degree course here, was arrested when the trio- Aimen Muhammed, Ibrahim Fouzen Salih and Shaniz Mahi, who were picked up earlier- spilled the beans about his involvement during an interrogation.
The police sources said Amhar was a member of the international racket and was instrumental in purchasing the contraband from Kerala-based sellers. He has been staying here for the last five years as a paying guest at Palkulangara where the narcotics was kept before being handed over to the trio, who were planning to smuggle it to the Maldives in vegetable oil cans.
Amhar hailed from Thinadhoo and was a friend of Aimen, who is listed as the first accused. Even before arriving in Kerala, Amhar knew Aimen as both belonged to the same locality of Thinadhoo, the capital of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, the proposed capital of Upper South Province of Maldives. According to Narcotics Cell Assistant Commissioner Sheen Tharayil, Amhar was preparing to leave Kerala for the Maldives when he was arrested.
