THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The state government will continue with its efforts to prevent the bifurcation of Thiruvananthapuram railway division, PWD Minister G Sudhakaran - who handles railway matters - informed the Assembly on Wednesday.

He was responding to a submission made by Kattakkada MLA I B Satheesh that officers attached to the Southern Railway were strengthening efforts to cleave the division.Sudhakaran said that the Union Railways Minister had informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in writing in November 2017 denying any move to split the division.

“But concerns prevail. So, the government will continue with efforts to prevent the bifurcation,” he said.
Currently, the Thiruvananthapuram railway division comprises 625 km and 108 stations from Vallathol Nagar in Thrissur to Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. The state had strongly opposed a move to bifurcate the division and attach 160 km, from Nemom to Tirunelveli, to the Madurai division.
