VIJAYAWADA: A good news for citizens in the city. Soon you can "make money" by depositing waste in a different ATM machines to come up in the city.
The municipal administration and Urban Development department have come up with an unique idea - Waste ATMs.
Demonstrating the idea to mediapersons at the Interim Government Complex on Tuesday, Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana said they would introduce the waste ATM in Vijayawada on a pilot basis and based on the response from public, it will replicate in all 110 urban local bodies in the State.
He said that the Waste ATM will have a slot, where empty plastic bottles, tea cups and soft drink tins/cans/bottles can be deposited and in return, the machine will automatically issue a coupon.
You can use the coupons at food courts, commercial establishments and shopping malls to buy things and services at a discount rate.
Narayana explained that the proposed waste ATMs will have sensors to identify the person depositing the waste in the machine and categorise them accordingly. It is designed to identify if the person is children, young, old, male or female and will display government schemes in respect of those categories on the screen. The machine will also have two mirrors, shoe polish and mobile charging facilities.
The minister said 64 megawatt capacity waste to energy plants are being set up at 10 places in the State.
