Vijayawada International Airport bags ISO 9001:2015

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada International Airport at Gannavaram has bagged International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO 9001:2015) certification for its quality services and passenger amenities.

A certificate in this regard was handed over to airport director G Madhusudhana Rao by ISO representatives recently. Special teams from the Quality Management System (QMS) conducted a survey on the airport premises for a month over the facilities offered to the passengers.
The teams also focused on the efforts being taken up by the airport authorities in resolving the grievances of the passengers.

At present,  the airport is witnessing 50 movements per day to 12 cities in the country.Recently, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and the State government constructed a new terminal with 13,300 sqm built-up an area for domestic operations.

On January 24, the State government issued a gazette notification declaring the Vijayawada Airport as an authorised immigration check post. In this regard, check-in points were arranged at various points in the terminal to provide hassle-free entry for the passengers. CCTV cameras were installed for the identification of the passengers’ baggage.

Six X-ray baggage scanning machines at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore were arranged on the terminal premises. The additional features developed at the airport include seating, waiting hall, VIP lounge, coffee and snacks bar, ATM’s, toilets, special rooms for breastfeeding and smoking.An information system was made available for passengers in the airport to make services easier.
