Vijayawada: Amaravati gets ‘platinum’ in green cities rating

The capital city of Amaravati has received ‘platinum’ in the Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) Green Cities Rating.

VIJAYAWADA: The capital city of Amaravati has received ‘platinum’ in the Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) Green Cities Rating. The ‘platinum’ is the highest rating a city can obtain as per a new category,  the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) said on Friday.

According to a press note, CRDA commissioner Cherukuri Sreedhar would receive the award during the three-day Happy Cities Summit to begin from April 10.“This is the first time that a big city was given ‘platinum’ rating. Earlier, GIFT city in Gujarat, a smaller city,  received it. The national chairman of IGBC, Prem C Jain, will present the award to CRDA commissioner Cherukuri Sreedhar during the Happy Cities Summit to he held at CK Convention Centre in Mangalagiri,” it said.

The IGBC rated Amaravati on various parameters: city planning, heat mitigation, green buildings, public spaces and regions under green cover, environmental monitoring and others.On the whole, Amaravati scored 78 out of 100, the officials said. “A city is given silver rating if its score is between 50 and 59, gold if between 60 to 75, and platinum if 76 and above,” the officials said.

Meanwhile, Cherukuri Sreedhar said that a social survey would be held in the capital region for preparation of the comprehensive traffic and transportation management study keeping the growth aspect under consideration.“Japan International Cooperation Agency has come forward to help us in the study. A consultant has been appointed to conduct a survey in this regard. Teams will begin the survey in April and May,” the commissioner said.
