VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Mayor Koneru Sreedhar has expressed his dissatisfaction for slow execution of underground drainage (UGD) works, which is resulting to be a cause of much inconvenience to the residents.

The mayor held a review meet on the progress of UGD works with the engineering department officials here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said even after 13 years since the UGD system was introduced by the VMC under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), the works still remained incomplete and bad roads caused much inconvenience to those living in the region. With inordinate delay in providing UGD connections, the civic body was failing to augment revenue over the years.

The civic body had earlier allocated Rs300 crore for the underground drainage works. "No work inspector was able to provide even three UGD connections in one day. If they do work effectively, each inspector can provide 90 connections per month on an average. Despite repeated cautions, there was no change in their attitude towards work. Necessary action will be taken against the them if they fail to speed up the works'', Sreedhar said.

VMC chief engineer P Adiseshu and superintendent engineers KS Ramamurthy and JV Ramakrishna were present in the meet.
