VIJAYAWADA:The three-day capacity building training programme on road safety, which kicked off on Monday here, is intended to create practical knowledge for the traffic police personnel in all domains of traffic engineering and road crash investigations.The ‘road to safety’ training programme is being organised by the district road safety committee in collaboration with DIAGEO and Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) at Command Control Centre in Vijayawada on Monday.
At the programme, a team lead by Rohit Baluja, president, IRTE, is training the traffic cops on road safety measures practised across the globe and sought field-level problems. City police commissioner D Gautam Sawang, joint commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata, head of DIAGEO Suraj Srivastava, regional officer of NHAI Anil Dixit, joint commissioner (Transport) SAV Prasada Rao and other officials concerned partook in the inaugural session of the training programme.
During the training sessions, IRTE will be demonstrating the modern traffic enforcement vehicle ‘Interceptor’. Interceptor Crash Lab (ICL) is a comprehensive tool for recognising and recording traffic violations, deficiencies in road infrastructure and road safety audit.Speaking at the session, Rohit Baluja said officials have to identify problems and faulty lines in order to rectify them later. “Our team made an encyclopedic presentation on the mundane traffic violations, safety issues and corrective measures for the cops and others concerned.”
Police commissioner Gautam Sawang said there was an urgent need to raise awareness towards road safety and stated that the state government has pro-actively taken steps to improve the standards of road safety by forming district road safety committee and reviewing its performance regualry.“In all likelihood, N Chandrababu Naidu is the only chief minister who reviews road safety measures. After forming (the committee), there is a significant reduction in accidents,” Sawang said.
