Japanese-built 10000 sqft convention centre to come up in Amaravati

The convention centre, which will also act as a window to encourage Japanese investments, besides boosting tourism, will be a modular one.

VIJAYAWADA:  Japanese infrastructure firm, Kuni Umi Asset Management Company Ltd., which had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the AP Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) for an affordable housing project in Amaravati, has come forward to establish a multipurpose convention centre.The convention centre, which will also act as a window to encourage Japanese investments, besides boosting tourism, will be a modular one and its components can be dismantled and reused/relocated. 

“The multipurpose convention centre is a temporary structure, where its components can be dismantled, reused or relocated. The convention centre will be designed by the renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban,” a CRDA official said.As per the proposal, the convention centre will have a ‘human future pavilion’ with 600-seating capacity. 

While the initial proposal has been to set up a 5,000 sq ft centre, the developers are said to have revised it to 10,000 sq ft during a meeting with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday. The project will come up in about 2,000 sq yards in the core capital area. While the proposal is yet to be finalised, the CRDA officials said that the convention centre would be ready in five months’ time from the time of beginning of the works.
