Kanaka Durga temple to convert gold offerings into bonds via SBI

VIJAYAWADA:   The trust board committee meeting of Goddess Kanaka Durga temple on Saturday passed a resolution to convert the 14.9 kg gold offerings into bonds by sending it to India Government Mint, Mumbai.The meeting has gained prominence as temple executive officer V Koteswaramma chaired the discussions with trust board committee chairman Y Gouranga Babu and other members after a series of controversies hogged the limelight at Indrakeeladri such as suspension of assistant executive officer S Achyutharamaiah and three other employees in connection with the memento scam unearthed recently.

Disclosing the details before the media, temple executive officer V Koteswaramma said that Devasthanam has received significant amount of gold and silver in the form of donations during Dasara festival and on other auspicious days.

 To make proper use of the gold offerings, the trust board committee had decided to convert them under gold bond scheme with the help of SBI, she said. 

The EO informed that Devasthanam has been contemplating introducing a dress code for devotees visiting the Indrakeeladri for having darshan of the presiding deity and to protect the sanctity of the temple. The decision in this regard will be announced after eliciting the opinion of devotees and Endowments Department, she said.

Other resolutions passed in the meeting include installation of CCTV cameras in the adopted temples of Devasthanam, making foolproof arrangements for Karthika Deepotsavam on November 23 and Bhavani Deeksha Viramana in December and suspension of an employee at Seetharama Swamy temple, Enikepadu for dereliction of duty.
