VIJAYAWADA: Sankara Eye Foundation, India, has set a new benchmark in community eye care by entering the Asia Book of Records for conducting the maximum number of free eye surgeries under a single vision programme.
From March 2004 to March 2026, it has provided free eye care to over 30 lakh patients, restoring sight to underserved communities in India.
Dr R V Ramani, Founder and Managing Trustee, said the recognition reflected the organisation’s mission to eliminate avoidable blindness. He said Sankara Eye Hospitals performs 1,000 surgeries daily across 14 centres in 10 States.
Officials said the recognition restored vision and improved livelihoods for thousands of patients while highlighting the importance of accessible healthcare and public-private partnerships in tackling preventable blindness.
