Diana Sahu

Bhubaneswar’s music scene is certainly getting more dynamic by the day. Youngsters with common interests are now teaming up to do their own thing and finding encouragement too. One such group of music enthusiasts who came together to form a rock band is RezoNoyze.

RezoNoyze was formed in Summer 2007 by five youth of CV Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar. They were an instant hit and bagged the runners-up, best guitarist and ‘find of the year’ award at Springfest of IIT-Kharagpur, their first gig. Later, they gained widespread success, winning many band competitions in and around Odisha and outside.

Their genre varies from punk rock, hard rock and post grunge to Indi rock, vedic metal,Western alternative rock and sufi rock.

While the band has Anurag Patnaik on the vox, Saptrashi Datta handles bass. Similarly, Kaushal Kumar Sahu is on rhythm guitar, Dhiren Kumar Hembram on lead guitar and Durga Prasd Mishra on drums and percussion.“The name is a tribute to noise and it literally translates into ‘The Prayers of The Noise’,” says Patnaik.

Despite their tight schedules, they set aside time to jam every week. “We jam regularly almost twice a week but those are acoustic jam sessions. The frequency obviously increases ahead of concerts. When you’re in an engineering college, with the stringent attendance rules and all; one cannot let education take a backseat. Hence, we give equal time to music and education. Full-fledged jam sessions start around three weeks prior to a gig,” he says. From composing to writing the tunes, beats and rhythms included, the band members pour their hearts into creating beautiful music.

The band members say they are inspired by bands and artistes like Strings, Call, Indian Ocean, Amit Trivedi, Kailasha, Roxen, Jal, Noori, A R Rehman, Metallica, Papa Roach, GnR, Pink Floyd, Greenday, BFMV, SOAD, Aerosmith and Yellowcard.
