GUWAHATI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, alleging that the BJP stalwart is being controlled by US President Donald Trump.

Addressing a rally in election-bound Assam’s Karbi Anglong, he also attacked Himanta Biswa Sarma, calling him the most corrupt chief minister of the country.

Gandhi claimed that Modi handed four to five things over to the US after the recent trade deal with that country.

“First, he opened India’s agricultural system for American farmers. No Prime Minister did it before. Soybean, lentil, fruits, cotton – Modi opened all of these for American farmers. Indian farmers own small fields and use small-scale mechanisation. They will be destroyed because the farmers in the US have large fields with a high level of mechanisation,” Gandhi said.

He said, as Modi handed energy security over to the US, India today needs permission from the US and Trump to buy oil from other countries.

“We cannot buy oil from Russia, Iran and Iraq without asking Donald Trump,” Gandhi said.

He further claimed that Modi handed India’s data over to Trump, allowing the US to do whatever they wanted with it.

“Modi Ji told Donald Trump that India will buy goods worth Rs 9 lakh crore from US companies every year. As a result, our small and medium-sized industries will be destroyed. Narendra Modi gave a lot of things to the US but the US gave nothing to India,” Gandhi claimed.

“Why was this deal then? It was because Donald Trump controls Narendra Modi,” he added.

The Congress leader said Trump was fully aware of Modi’s “corruption and Adani company records.”

He said Adani could not go to the US as Trump had filed a criminal case against the Indian industrialist there.

“If he goes there, he will be behind bars, and BJP and Narendra Modi’s financial system will be shown to the world,” Gandhi further claimed.

Stating that 3.5 million Epstein files remain closed, he said, “Modi’s character is there in the Epstein files. Donald Trump has this weapon with him and is controlling Modi. Trump had publicly stated ‘I (Trump) will destroy him (Modi) whenever I want’.”

Attacking Sarma, Gandhi said Assam has a “mini-Narendra Modi who is the most corrupt chief minister of India. His control is in the hands of Modi and (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah. Trump controls the PM and the PM controls your chief minister.”

The Congress leader also claimed that Modi, Shah and Sarma had opened a land ATM in Assam, and they took whatever amount of land they required.

“He gave 18,000 bighas of your land to Adani, 13,000 bighas to Ambani and 60,000 bighas to Patanjali. There is corruption. He is giving your land to them and they are generously giving money to him which he uses in politics,” Gandhi alleged addressing the crowd.

Further alleging that Sarma runs Assam together with syndicates, the Congress leader said, “He (Sarma) moves with his chest puffed up. But the moment we form the government here, not a single word will come out of his mouth and he will come with folded hands. I know these people. They will not be forgiven.”
