A Satish

PALAKKAD:A husband and wife will be contesting for the same party, here the BJP, in the Assembly elections. Both of them have plunged head on into the electoral fray.

It will be K K Surendran who will be contesting from the Ponnani Assembly constituency and Sobha Surendran from the Palakkad Assembly segment. They belong to Vadakkenchery in Thrissur district.

While Shobha Surendran is a BJP national executive committee member and state general secretary, Surendran is a state executive committee member of the party.

K K Surendran is facing a triangular contest against P Sreeramakrishnan of the CPM and Ajay Mohan of the Congress in the Ponnani constituency. In the Palakkad Assembly constituency, Sobha Surendran is pitted against Shafi Parambil of the Congress and N N Krishnadas of the CPM.

K K Surendran had tried his luck from the Kottackal Assembly constituency in 2011 and lost. As far as Sobha Surendran is concerned, this was her sixth outing at the hustings.

In 2004 she tried her luck from the Vadakkenchery assembly constituency in a byelection. Subsequently, she contested from Ponnani Assembly segment, Ernakulam byelection, Pudukkad Assembly segment and Palakkad parliamentary constituency.

Says Sobha Surendran: “In all the five elections I had contested, I was able to double the margin of my predecessor which I believe is one of my greatest strengths.”
