Losing his pace

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cricketer turned BJP candidate S Sreesanth appeared cheerful on Thursday despite his loss to V S Sivakumar at Thiruvananthapuram constituency. At the BJP headquarters at Mararji Smrithi Mandiram in Thycaud, the young player was in jovial spirits as he joined senior leaders Kummanam Rajasekaran and O Rajagopal in viewing the election results. Clad in a white shirt, blue half-jacket and jeans, he had decorated his forehead with several 'thilaks'. Film director and Aruvikara BJP candidate Rajasenan joined the veterans at Mararji Mandiram.

Sreesanth did not figure anywhere in the initial round of the counting as the clear fight was between UDF's V S Sivakumar and independent candidate Antony Raju at Thiruvananthapuram Central. Not sure of his place, he was seen drooping on his chair and kept himself busy with his mobile phone. He had his moment of adrenalin rush when he came second in a narrow margin with Sivakumar. However, the win-win situation was short lived. Soon, there was silence as he was relegated to the third position.

However, the mood at the camp changed when O Rajagopal became sure of his victory. The cricketer could be seen taking a selfie with the veteran leader. As the entire camp's attention shifted to Nemom's historic victory, the former Indian player made a silent exit to the nearby room.  “ It is a great victory for BJP in Kerala. If anybody deserves to be in Assembly, it is definitely him. He has done so much for the people," Sreesanth added. On LDF's victory, he said it was due to the corruption of UDF government.

“Thanks to all the supporters for all the love and respect… will surely keep working for the people,” the cricketer tweeted.
