AIADMK releases first list of 23 candidates for Assembly polls

Palaniswami will contest from Edappadi. Among other prominent candidates announced are C. Vijayabaskar (Viralimalai), M.R. Vijayabaskar (Karur), S.P. Velumani (Thondamuthur), and D. Jayakumar (Royapuram).

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Wednesday released its first list of 23 candidates for the Assembly elections scheduled in April. The list features several senior leaders and former Ministers, including the party’s general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

Palaniswami will contest from Edappadi. Among other prominent candidates announced are C. Vijayabaskar (Viralimalai), M.R. Vijayabaskar (Karur), S.P. Velumani (Thondamuthur), and D. Jayakumar (Royapuram).

The other candidates are, Natham R. Viswanathan (Natham), P. Thangamani (Kumarapalayam), C.Ve. Shanmugam (Mailam), Sellur K. Raju (Madurai West), K.P. Anbazhagan (Palacode), R. Kamaraj (Nannilam), O.S. Manian (Vedaranyam), C. Vijayabaskar (Viralimalai), Kadambur C. Raju (Kovilpatti), R.B. Udhayakumar (Tirumangalam), K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji (Sivakasi), P. Benjamin (Maduravoyal), Agri S.S. Krishnamurthy (Kalasapakkam), V.V. Rajan Chellappa (Tirupparankundram), K.C. Karuppannan (Bhavani), K.C. Veeramani (Jolarpet), M.R. Vijayabaskar (Karur), and S. Rajendran (Ariyalur).

C. Ve. Shanmugam, a Rajya Sabha member and former Minister, had contested from Villupuram in the 2021 Assembly elections. He has now been fielded from Mailam.

Party’s general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is set to kick-start his election campaign later this evening from Mylapore.
