No specific colour for all-women poll booths: Chief Electoral Officer

The entire polling staff, including police and security personnel, deployed at these polling stations are to be women.

HYDERABAD: Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar has issued a direction to the effect that no specific colour should be used in all-women managed polling stations in the State. The CEO in a release here on Saturday said this is to avoid any inadvertent use of the colour of any particular political party at such polling booths, he said.Rajat Kumar said the women employed at these polling stations can wear any colour of their choice. Further, no single colour should be used for the paraphernalia associated with the construction of such polling stations.

The CEO explained, recalling that the Election Commission of India had directed for setting up of all-women managed polling stations in each Assembly constituency during general elections held in recent times. This is in tune with the Commission’s commitment towards gender equality and ensure greater participation of women in the electoral process. 

The entire polling staff, including police and security personnel, deployed at these polling stations are to be women. These all-women managed polling stations are named “Sakhi booths” at some places and pink booths at other places, he added.

Polling stations inspected in Banjara thandas

Nalgonda: Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, Dr Rajat Kumar, on Saturday took time off from his tight schedules at Hyderabad to visit Banjara thandas of Nalgonda and inspected polling stations and was impressed with the arrangements made for the ensuing polls. The names of booth level officers, supervisors, assistant returning officers and returning officers written prominently on booth walls along with their mobile numbers in case a voter wishes to file a complaint, impressed him the most.
