The hero of ‘Thirumathi Selvam’ serial on Sun TV has more reasons to smile. With lots of offers coming up in both serials and in films, and his marriage with artiste Preethi Srinivasan on March 12, Sanjeev is quite excited on his new role — as that of a husband.

While many serials focus on women, ‘Thirumathi Selvam’ is hero-centric. ''When the director briefed me about my character, he said ladies should weep seeing your role. He gave me the major responsibility as most of the serials are more on women issues,'' says the actor. And, as the director said, Sanjeev who plays a sentimental man also has a soft corner among serial buffs. ''The character resembles me and it's easy to work. I'm privileged as it's going on prime time,'' he says. Sanjeev will play a major role in ‘Kalsam’ serial on Sun TV and will also do a couple of films. ''My whole family belongs to film industry. My mother's sister is Manjula Vijaykumar and my sister Sindhu was an artiste. So my passion was more on acting right from my school days. I played the hero's friend in a couple of movies, and I got to play the same role. So I moved into serials and now I am getting good character roles in films,'' says the actor.

He is also known for his way of presenting ‘Maanada Mayilaada’ show on Kalaignar TV. ''I thought I can't become a good anchor, and the show was like an acid test for me,'' smiles Sanjeev, a close friend of actor Vijay. ''We have been friends for more than 17 years and it's nice when he and his wife watch my show and comment on it,'' adds h. From negative roles in serials like ‘Metti Oli’, ‘Annamalai’ and ‘Manaivi’, Sanjeev slowly moved on to character roles. His Arjun character in ‘Aanandam’ serial is quite popular.

''While, people get to see their heroes only once in three or four months on the big screen, television artistes are seen daily. We have a good reach” opines the actor.

Tying the knot

''We had a good rapport and we left it to our parents. My mom spoke to their family, and everything went on well,'' says the excited actress, who is acting in Comedy Colony and ‘Vaira Nenjam’. ''Comedy Colony is getting over and I play a negative role in ‘Vaira Nenjam’, and I am planning to continue it even after my marriage,” says Preetehi.
