Vikram Bhatt, on ‘Haunted 3D’

Apart from the 3D format which would increase the thrills, the film’s storyline is different from what I’ve done before.

MUMBAI: Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, better known as the master of horror, is all set to scare the audience yet again with his 3D horror movie ‘Haunted 3D’. “The film promises its audiences the world they’ve never experienced before,” says the director of films such as ‘Raaz’, ‘1920’ and ‘Shaapit’. Here he shares his experience of shooting his favourite genre — horror — but this time on a 3D format.

‘Haunted 3D’ has technicians from abroad. Why and when did you think of making a 3D film?

I conceived the idea sometime in May last year. I was just done with my horror trilogy of ‘Raaz’, ‘1920’ and ‘Shaapit’. Though I was done with horror, then came 3D. I realized that horror would look even more horrific if it was in 3D.

How is it different from your other horror films?

Apart from the 3D format which would increase the thrills, the film’s storyline is different from what I’ve done before. The treatment and work culture was also a pleasant change from what I’ve done before. But let’s face the fact that horror is made to scare and so it will be different in story but obviously it wants to evoke the sensation of fear.

Tell us something about the star cast of the film.

I’d say the 3D camera is the star of the film, for it has done that has never been done before. The usual star cast comprises Mahakshay Chakraborty and Tia Bajpai. It is Mahakshay’s (better know as Mimoh) relaunch or comeback film and Tia is a newcomer. They are both extremely talented young actors.

Is it true that 'Haunted 3D' is the most expensive film made in this genre?

Well yes, the stats say so! Though I think ‘Raaz 2’ might have been just a little more expensive.

What can the audience expect from this film?

The audience can expect a world that they’ve seen but yet never experienced! It’s a love story that has never been told. The path that has never been walked on.

Do you think this film will encourage more filmmakers to make films on a 3D format rather than converting 2D into 3D?

I would like to believe so. Ever since the word came out about ‘Haunted’; filmmakers are already in the queue to try this technique. So yes, you can call it path breaking, as it is already leading others to follow the road we just travelled. Also ‘Haunted’ is the first Indian 3D stereoscopic film and yes, pioneering work.

We heard there is a delay in the release of this film. When is it finally releasing?

Yes, there was a slight delay, pertaining the extensive post production but it is now due for a May 6 release.

What’s next for you?

There’s lot... just stay hooked! Hint, more 3D!
