In her first film, Yudham Sei, she played a non-glamourous role and in her next that will soon hit screens, she will be playing the role of a conventional, small-town girl.

Dipa Shah, the Mumbai-born actor, loves the variety of roles she is getting to play. Says the model-turned-actor, “Not having a film background has its own advantages, the most important one being that it gives you the space to experiment and not having to deal with expectations. And, debuting in a non-glamourous role gave me that opportunity to not get stereotyped.”

She is just two-films old, but she is already familiar with Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. “I tried to dub for my role in Sillunnu Oru..., but then the accent was unsuitable for the character,” she smiles, adding that she will definitely begin speaking her dialogues soon.

Shah reveals that not many took her ambition of becoming an actor seriously. “In school, everyone laughed at me when I told them I aspired to become an actor. Even when I got into films, many suggested that I should learn my family business, just for back up, if my career in films didn’t take-off. But then, if I don’t do well as an actor, I perhaps won’t excel in anything else,” she adds.

An ardent fan of Sridevi, Shah says that the actor, who recently made a comeback in English Vinglish, is a complete artiste. “She can scare you, make you laugh or cry. She is such a complete package, as an actor. I was in awe of her role in the film,” Shah signs-off
