The 'gypsy' traveller

Former VJ Kim Jagtiani is back with a travel and auto show and lots of thrills.

When you add the elements of travel and automobiles to any show, there’s plenty of reason to be excited. Last year, it was History TV18’s India on Four Wheels, where BBC presenter Anita Rain explored the demographics of the country through automobiles. While the former had a serious tone, NDTV Good Times’ latest, 2 for the Road (launched on December 30), has all the names (think Ferraris, Harleys and Yamahas) that will keep you asking for more. On the show, former Channel V VJ and TV host (Exotica on Star One) Kim Jagtiani, and former model Varun Mitra, travel the country on various vehicles. The Indo- Canadian Jagtiani opens up about the show:

My previous shows were about destinations. In this case, it is about the mode of travel and exploring our love for bikes and automobiles. In 2 for the Road, Varun Mitra and I decide to take on different vehicles and exchange stories later on. While Mitra likes the luxury mode of travel, for me it’s about soulful travel. I’m a complete gypsy. I don’t care how I get to the destination.

I covered the Festival of Speed at Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. Then I travelled through Chennai on a Harley Davidson SuperLow, which was super exciting. I then bicycled in Bangalore, rode a Bullet in Mumbai and went jet-skiing and dirt-biking (in Doodh Sagar) in Goa. I also drove a race car at the KMS (Kari Motor Speedway), Coimbatore.

Driving on the KMS was my favourite, hands down. It’s a different ball game when you sit in the car and drive. Chennai racer Aditya Patel, helped me understand what I need to look out for when I’m on the track. I got to learn how the team functions. It was a turning point for me as I got to understand the sport from a whole new perspective.

Chithra Priya (who is a biker) and I explored Chennai, ECR, Mahabalipuram and the interiors on our bikes. We chatted through the whole journey with the world looking at us and we, oblivious to them. It was a chick moment (laughs)!

Besides Masterchef Australia, Friends and Two and a Half Men, I love Touch, Fringe and 24.

2 for the Road airs on Sundays, NDTV Good Times at 10 pm.
