5 movies to watch when you have been dumped

So you’ve just been dumped... There is no getting around it, it truly is the worst

From our online archive

So you’ve just been dumped... There is no getting around it, it truly is the worst feeling in the world. And no matter how many people assure you that, ”It happens to everyone” and ”There are more fish in the sea”, this is simply no consolation — of course, you feel like you are the first person to have your heart broken. We suggest a better way to overcome, catch the following films and blow away the blues! Kill Bill Vol I and II : ”Revenge is a dish best served cold” is the bitter tagline of Tarantino’s iconic revenge movies. Uma Thurman stars as the Bride and former assassin who, after being betrayed in the worst possible way by lover and fellow assassin, Bill, embarks on a determined path of rage and revenge that leads her to her final battle. Only to be viewed when truly angry, you can find consolation.

The Break Up: Life imitated art in this realistic portrayal of the dysfunctional reality of a break up between Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, who bicker and cry their way through the whole film. The knowledge that the couple met on set, staying together for over a year before enduring a messy public split, makes the movie all the more affecting, reminding us all that even stars get their hearts broken.

Bridget Jones’ Diary: ‘Dumpees’ will find familiar territory in Bridget’s story.

Renee Zellweger plays the famously curvy and loveable Bridget, who gets her heart broken by her caddish boss (Hugh Grant). Renee’s compulsively checking her answering machine to singing ‘All By Myself ’ on the sofa.

However with time, Bridget gets better Bridget puts her ex in his rightful place and finds a better man (despite enduring a series of humiliating experiences in his presence) proving there is hope for us all.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: The story of a Mr Nice Guy whose beautiful girlfriend Sarah Marshall leaves him for a world famous rock star, played brilliantly by Russell Brand.

Even worse, he then bumps into the couple on holiday in Hawaii and is forced to spend a week in their company.

This is essentially the male equivalent of Bridget Jones’ Diary, making light of the whole dumping situation without undermining it.

This is bittersweet, laughout- loud stuff that will help even the saddest of dumpees see the funny side of things.

The Holiday : Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz swap lives and houses over the Christmas period to escape their disastrous love lives.

Each of the main four characters has had their heart broken, yet manages to find the One after the One. Be warned however, this is an unashamedly sentimental love story that should be viewed with caution - if you find yourself suppressing the desire to throw things at the TV when Cameron Diaz and Jude Law frolic happily in a Winter Wonderland, you are not ready! Refer back to Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
