LONDON: Hollywood comeback kid Mickey Rourke has publicly thanked action star Sylvester Stallone for standing by him when he hit rock bottom.

The actor made a triumphant return to the big screen last year with his role in "The Wrestler" after more than a decade of struggling with drug addiction, alcoholism and a divorce with actress Carre Otis. The star is thankful he was surrounded by supportive friends, who helped him through the bad times, reports imdb.com.

"A lot of those who let you down are those who seemed the closest to you. They're the ones running out of your house with the silver when it all goes wrong, and when they jump ship that hurts. There are some people who stuck with me: Sly Stallone has always been a good friend to me...," said Rourke.

Rourke has also found a new friend in British actor Jason Statham after filming scenes together for their new movie "The Expendables".

"I just did a few days with Jason Statham on Sly's new film and he's become a good friend," he said.
