This year saw the end of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Logan, but fans were blown away by the performance of Dafne Keen who debuted as X-23. With speculations abuzz that about her return to the X Men franchise, director James Mangold, who helmed Logan, recently confirmed that he’s working on a script for her.

Referring to the success of Patty Jenkins’s Wonder Woman, Mangold says, “Patty’s success with that film only goes to show that there’s room for superhero films with a female protagonist. The more that keeps getting hit home, it gives me more space to turn around and go, ‘Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are right now, dreaming.”

Logan’s producer Hutch Parker says the spinoff will be different from Logan. “It may not have the same exact tone or be in the same genre as Logan. I think part of what has been opened up in this universe to all of us now is the drawing on from different genre traditions. New pathways will be opened for the new characters that populate this universe.”
