The new title trend in Kollywood

Having popular lines of songs as movie titles seems to have become passe now. What’s new in K-town is titling films after the catchy and quirky dialogues of films and commercials.

While it is known that director R Kannan’s upcoming flick Settai was likely to be titled Varuthapadadha Vaalibar Sangam, immortalised by Vadivelu in the film Winner, actor Santhanam has titled his first production venture Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya. The line, which  appears in a chocolate commercial, is already a popular one-liner in films.

More movie seem to be following this trend like Nalladhana Poikitiruku (NP), for instance. The movie directed by Azhagappan C went on floors on Friday. While the director told the story of a girl and her grandfather in his first film Vannathupoochi, he is trying his hand in comedy with his next flick, NP.

“Only the rich need to worry about losing money. The poor — on the other hand — is happy spending whatever he has. The hero of this film is one such character and how a rich girl falls for him is the one-line story of the film,” he says.

Produced by PSK Film International, Nalladhana Poikitiruku stars newcomers Shravan and DJ in the lead roles. Guru and Kalyan score the music.

The shooting is scheduled to take place in Chennai, Hyderabad and Singapore. The movie is scheduled to release this year end.
