For S S Lal, the director of the soap ‘Malootty’ in Mazhavil Manorama, it was the fame of baby Niranjana in the show ‘Manjurukum Kalam’ which prompted him to select her for the role. Says director S S Lal, “Everyone loved and enjoyed her performance in the former, and that led us to zero in on her.”

After the increased popularity of the soap ‘Manjurukum Kalam’ in Mazhavil Manorama, Baby Niranjana comes in a new avatar as ‘Malootty’ in the soap. The show which has been airing for the past three months have now crossed 70 episodes.

Elaborating more about the story, he states, “The plot follows the life of a young girl who end up being neglected by her working parents because of personal and ego issues.”

While many may feel that the soap is inspired from the success of the former hit show in the channel, the director of ‘Malootty’ sets facts straight, “The only similarity is that children have been the lead character in both shows. The soap has underwent a time leap now. Also the plot is entirely different.”

“With an overdose of adult protagonists and tragic situations which they go through in daily soaps, people find it a relief to see young children on the small screen. They find it easy to sympathise and empathise with them,” says S S Lal, director of the recently launched soap titled ‘Malootty’ in Mazhavil Manorama.

When it comes to tearjerking soaps, there would always be a section of people who criticise them for being negative. With a child playing the oppressed, has the soap evoked any negative response? Adds Lal, “Even from the initial episodes, we were careful to avoid too much unnecessary melodramatic sequences or situations which could evoke negative reactions. We were careful as we had heard about another soap coming under criticism because of similar reasons. However, We have in fact never got any negative response from the viewers. The ratings are good.”

The soap will also see a time leap, according to the director. Winding up, he says, “The show will go through a leap in a few months.” The show is telecast at 7 in the channel.
