Word has it that AR Rahman may perform live at the much-awaited audio launch of Vijay’s Mersal, which will take place at Nehru Stadium on August 20.

“It’s going to be a grand audio launch and Rahman sir may perform. He is yet to give his final nod but the makers are hopeful that he will accept the invitation and at least perform briefly,” says a source from the film’s unit.

Vijay plays a triple role in the big budget film, which is bankrolled by Sri Thenandal Studios. The three roles are that of a panchayat head, a doctor and a magician. In the poster, he’s seen sporting a twirled moustache and this is said to be from the period portions of the film.

Directed by Atlee, the film also stars Nithya Menen, SJ Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Mersal, which will have a simultaneous dubbed Telugu release, is set to hit the screens this Diwali.
