LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday came down heavily on Sanjay Leela Bhansali, accusing him of treating a sensitive page of history in film ‘Padmavati’ without due responsibility. "He has been in the habit of playing with people's sentiments. The movie in question also falls in the same category wherein it has hurt the sentiment of a particular community," UP CM said in Gorakhpur.
Referring to those who are handing out life threats to the filmmaker and the actors and announcing bounties, the CM said that no one had the right to take the law into own hands. "If those announcing bounties are wrong, Bhansali is no less guilty, as he has played with the feelings of a community and created a controversy over a history sequence. In case of an action, it should be taken equally against both," he stated.
Notably, last week, the home department of UP government has written to the Union I & B Ministry making its stand over the film clear. The government had sought the Centre to prevail over CBFC and get all the controversial sequences omitted from the film before giving it a go-ahead for release. "As per the intelligence input, if the film will be released without corrections, it may cause law and order problem in the state," the letter shot off by Principal Secretary Home read.
