Ajay has devoted the better part of a year and a half to Shivaay, his second directorial venture - he has not had a release since Drishyam in July 2015.

The actor, who is known to be a doting, attentive father to his real-life daughter Nysa, says he made Shivaay based on the idea of the father-daughter bond.

Ask Ajay what attracted him about the story of Shivaay enough to want to direct it and he says, “It’s never the story; it’s always the emotion. If you have to convey your emotion, then you create the story. So, it was that emotional thought of a father-daughter relationship. I would have done in a family drama or I could have taken it somewhere else. Shivaay is basically an emotional father-daughter relationship drama and how they both react in situations. It’s an emotional and an action movie. It’s not dark but it touches you emotionally.”
